Reputation survey (18%) – This indicator looks at university’s reputation for research excellence among its peers and is based on the responses to annual Academic Reputation Survey. Academic reputation is measured via a global survey, asking academics to tell us where the best work is currently taking place within their field of expertise. This year the rankings draw on 62,094 responses globally, collated over three years.

In 2019, over 360 events were hosted, attended by 265,000 candidates, in 100 cities across 50 countries. The event aims to provide a more holistic overview of an MBA degree, with enhanced focus on pre- and post-study processes and insights. Instead, candidates take part in pre-arranged 1-to-1 interviews with admissions staff, based on pre-submitted CVs and academic profiles.
The QS Global Academic Survey now stands as the largest survey of its type yet on the opinions of academics globally with a response of over 94,000 for the 2020 edition of the rankings. QS runs an extensive filtering process to identify and discard responses of this nature. It is well documented on the basis of other high-profile surveys in higher education that universities are not above attempting to get respondents to answer in a certain fashion.

RUR 2018-2019 Reputation Rankings are based directly on the raw reputation data which is the share of total number of votes obtained by a particular institution in the framework of an academic reputation survey. If universities share the same score, they are given the same rank. For example, if 10 universities in the 100-110 range obtained the same score, such universities are given the same rank — 105th.
These contributors are allegedly non-academic , with reports of others being university staff who were offered financial enticements to encourage participation. In response, QS said it has weeded out non-academic responses and that no financial incentives were given to any survey participant, academic or employer.
Beyond 400, they are grouped in hundreds, and beyond 600, they are grouped in two hundreds. The survey asks academics to nominate up to 10 domestic and 30 international institutions that they think are producing top research. Survey responses make up the Academic Reputation metric score (40% of the World Rankings and various higher weightings in the Subject Rankings). The THE ranking utilises Z scores for all data sets except for the results of the academic reputation survey. Each data point is given a score based on its distance from the mean average of the entire data set, where the scale is the standard deviation of the data set.

They run on unique manifestos and are then elected by their subject peers to fulfil this role, which is an exciting opportunity to actively shape students' educational experience here at Cambridge.
